Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks his maiden title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to get a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He defended four early chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
